'Stache Bash a 'Staching Success!

My, O my - I'm still recovering from the incredible reception our growers received at our first Seattle 'Stache Bash. Growers dazzled our audience with their displays of 'stachy athleticism, charm, & creativity, not to mention a host of 'stache-worthy costumes. And the audience showed their appreciation by donating over $400 more in the course of the competition. Thanks to all our growers, judges, donors, and organizers for making the event such a success!

I will post a more detailed summary of the event, along with many, many 'stache-licious pics, very soon. In the meantime, keep our 'staches in your hearts, and keep reaching for the stars!

Reminder: 'Stache Bash Tuesday!

Hello, fellow 'stache-followers - Jut a quick reminder that we've got our Seattle 'Stache Bash 2006 tomorrow night at 7pm at Kells Irish Pub downtown. We've got several super-fun, highly competitive events planned for our growers, so it's sure to be quite the 'stachey spectacle. And one mysterious note for our audience members: $1 bills will be very useful!

Join us at the Seattle 'Stache Bash 2006!

The Seattle growerhood cordially invites you to join us for the inaugural M4K Seattle 'Stache Bash of 2006! The event takes place next Tuesday, 12/12/06 at Kells on Post Alley, near Pike Place Market (directions here). At this crown-jewel event of the M4K season, our growers will compete in a number of mustache-to-mustache, no-holds-barred events to win the title of Sweetest Seattle 'Stache of 2006. These events will include such illustrious competitions as Best Beer-Foam Retention, and Best Pre-Pubescent 'Stache.

It is sure to go down in the annals of extreme competitive sports, and you are all welcome to attend as witnesses, fans, and event judges. So come out to support your favorite M4K grower, and feel free to invite other 'stache fans! It’s going to be one helluva sweet-‘stachey party. And if you haven’t yet pledged your support with a donation, the ‘Stache Bash is the perfect time to place your bet.

With less than a week to go, our growers are training their 'staches hard for the event. Consider this a preview of things to come: Raghu, Nick, and Kurt demonstrate a warm-up Beer-Retention 'stache-off:

Keith - Week 4

Keith - Week 4

Keith may just have the most endearing 'stache of the bunch, perhaps because it suits his deceptively cherubic looks so well.

Judd - Week 4

Judd - Week 4

Judd and his 'stache are the chameleons of the Seattle growerhood. This versatile duo could easily pass for a cowboy from the Wild West, a Victorian gentleman, or a mustachioed Lex Luther. His 'Stache Bash costume is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Aleks - Week 4

Aleks - Week 4

Aleks is, as they say in the biz, a bonafide "natural" at the 'stache growing game. He proved himself a leader of the pack early on, growing a 'stache like he's been doing it since the day he was born. Given his natural talents, I'd seed him pretty high in the group for the Bash.

Checkpoint #4 Recap: The Celtic Bayou, Wed 12/6/06

Week 4 found our boys sporting some very sophisticated, highly developed, and thoroughly tested mustaches. These are clearly shippable goods.

The M4KSEA gang (ong-kay!)

By this, their fourth week with their little lip-carpet buddies, our growers were clearly becoming pros. Their sweet little 'staches were looking nice and ripe, just in time for the ultimate event next week: the Greater Seattle 'Stache Bash of 2006.

Go ahead, just try to pick a winner out of this line-up. I certainly can't.

Sean - Week 4
Sean - Week 4

Sean finally joined the ranks after being mysteriously absent from previous photos. It's like he was carefully nursing that thing in a basement somewhere for 4 weeks - it looked perfect and untouched. All in all, an excellent, secret little job.

Erik - Week 4
Erik - Week 4

Erik's 'stache is a fierce, flaming-red number, harking back to the mustachioed days of King Arthur, and each of his 'stache hairs is like a mini-Knight of the Roundtable. He's got nothing but pride for it, and rightfully so.

Raghu - Week 4
Raghu - Week 4

Rags's 'stache lends him a thoroughly Ragsian air of calm and wisdom. It speaks silent yet eloquent volumes about its owner.

Ciprian - Week 4
Ciprian - Week 4

Cip's 'stache is of the sultry, ambiguously European variety. It is a worthy companion to his bedroom-eyed stare. The ladies are gonna love it.

Nick - Week 4
Nick - Week 4

Nick and his 'stache are looking downright dapper together. He clearly takes the time each morning and evening to give it the proper amount of loving care. Such pains will no doubt reward him in big ways come competition-time.

Kurt - Week 4
Kurt - Week 4

Kurt's 'stache is the tortoise to the other "hairs" of this group. It's taking its sweet time during the footrace, but who knows, it might pull out a miraculous, showstopping finish come next Tuesday. Only the witnesses will know!

Checkpoint #4 Reminder!

Our 4th and final checkpoint will be this Wednesday, 12/6, at the Celtic Bayou in Redmond. All of our mustache competitors are due to attend, so it's sure to be quite a mustache sight. In addition, we'll do a quick 'Stache-&-Cash tally to see how our boys are stacking up before the big 'Stache Bash next week!

The M4K Tattoo (you know you want one!)

Tanya, one of my fellow female M4KSEA members (and my officemate), proudly displays her M4K tattoo in a symbolic show of support for her mustache competitor and husband, Keith:

Checkpoint #3 Recap: The Celtic Bayou, Thu 11/28/06

A bizarre snow and ice storm befell the normally temperate greater Puget Sound area, and whilst it succeeded in delaying our post-holiday Checkpoint by two days, it failed to keep the mustaches from growing at a beautiful pace. If anything, the otherwise inclement weather seemed to be a 'stache-booster, for Week 3 found our crew sporting sweet 'staches galore. No sooner had I chosen a favorite-of-the-week before another contender appeared.

The M4K Gang

At this Checkpoint, we also distributed a ton of goodies: M4K pins for our men to don with pride while marching through the hallways of Microsoft bullying co-workers for their lunch money; a bunch of lovely temporary tattoos courtesy of our brother-growers at M4KNY; our newly printed, instantly cred-building M4KSEA biz cards; and signs to be posted proudly on office doors so that all may recognize the hallowed mustache domains. Many costume ideas for the upcoming 'Stache Bash were also floated around. I have a few frontrunners in mind, but I won't say more, lest I ruin anyone's surprise.

Week 2 Recap - A Holiday Break

Week 2 consisted of a turkey-time break for most of our intrepid 'staches, which means no incriminating Checkpoint photos were taken. However, fundraising continued at a steady clip - after all, no 'stache sleeps so long as there are kids in need!

Checkpoint #1 Recap: Azteca, Thu 11/16/06

Our small but sturdy Seattle crew got started a tad behind the rest of the North American Chapters, but we still made the first Checkpoint date of 11/16, which was both our official Meet-'n-Greet and Shaving Day events.

The M4KSEA crew
Sure, they look pretty good now, but just wait until the handsome 'staches grow in!

Most of the fellas treated themselves that morning to nice, all-inclusive shaving jobs, while a couple others held on for one final day with their beloved facial hair. Many pertinent - and several impertinent - questions were asked and answered, rules and pledge sheets were distributed, and margaritas were consumed in preparation for the 4-week journey we were all to undertake together.

Welcome to M4KSEA

Welcome to the Mustaches for Kids Seattle Chapter for the 2006 growing season! Few towns can boast of being as mustache-friendly as the Emerald City - after all, flannel shirts, coffee, and rain are well-known 'stache boosters. A few excellent examples:

Jimi Hendrix

Chris Cornell

BillG

Nirvana Nevermind

Our chapter consists of 12 strapping young Microsoftie males who are nurturing some shapely 'staches this growing season, from Nov. 16th - Dec. 13th. Make a donation to your favorite Seattle grower, or join us at one of our weekly Checkpoints!
